Bulk Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix

I grew up with this hot chocolate mix. No store-bought version can compare.

Now it does have a few things that probably aren’t that healthy for ya. But I’ll give you a few different varriations so you can decide which would be better for your family.

I mean, if you’re like me you grew up on Cheetoes & kool-aid, so this isn’t terrible ;)

This makes a big bulk batch of powder that you mix with hot water.

It has dry powdered milk, powdered sugar, powdered coffee cream, and Nestle Quick.

So yeah…not the healthiest LOL!

But here’s the OG recipe to start with.

  • 1 lb 9.6oz (8qt) Dry Milk powder

  • 1 lb Nestle Quick chocolate powder

  • 6 oz powdered coffee cream

  • 3/4 c powdered sugar

Mix it all up and store in a large covered bowl.
When ready to make a delectable cup of cocoa to warm you up, fill your mug half full with the mix and add hot water.
Stir and add marshmallows or whipped cream, YUM!

So, you know me, what’s better than powdered milk? (besides anything that’s powdered..) Real RAW milk!

That makes this 1000x better!!

So at least eliminate the powdered milk in the mix. And, with all the cream in our raw milk, you can eliminate the powdered coffee cream also.

I just add a splash of raw cream to mine. Don’t fill the cup half full unless you really like chocolate and sugar.

Heat raw milk, just to around 100*. A cow’s body temperature is normally between 101-102*, so the milk will still be raw.

To swap out the powdered sugar, use pure cane sugar or maple sugar. You’ll only need a 1/2c instead of 3/4c because the powdered sugar is fluffier and contains other things besides sugar.

Now the Nesquick is a little trickier to substitute. You can’t just plop a bunch of cocoa powder in there because Nesquick has sugar in it also!

And I’m sure they do something with the cocoa powder in Nesquick to make it dissolve in cold milk. It’s almost impossible to do (I’ve tried).

But straight cocoa powder would work just fine in hot milk, so it’s totally doable. I just don’t know the amount you would use for this recipe. Maybe just add to taste.

There’s probably some healthy version of Nestle Quick out there. If you know of any comment or send me an email, I’d love to know.

And the marshmallows… I actually just made my own (not in one of the pictures). I never knew that was a thing! Instagram is good for something.

They were actually really easy to make and taste divine. Plus being healthy is totally mindblowing.

I’ll have to share that recipe later in another blog.

Right now you need to cozy up by your fireplace (or space heater ;) with a mug of my favorite hot chocolate and take a break, you know you need it!
